Sheriff Gary Cudmore took office in January 2015.  Prior to taking office he had been in law enforcement for over 23 years.  Five years as a Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe police officer and another 2 years as a patrol sergeant.  Sheriff Cudmore then worked 16 years as a deputy sheriff for Ziebach County before being elected as Sheriff.  He is a member of the Dupree Volunteer Fire Department and South Dakota Sheriffs’ Association.  Ziebach County covers 1,971 square miles and has a population of 2,834.
