Members of the South Dakota Sheriffs’ Association attending the 2017 fall conference
The South Dakota Sheriffs’ Association was formed in 1953. The association was originally organized by former Pennington County Sheriff Glenn Best who wanted to form a committee of Sheriffs to share ideas and work together toward common law enforcement goals in South Dakota. Over the years it has evolved into a tremendous organization that represents law enforcement issues at the legislature in Pierre every year, as well as representation at many state, federal and local committees and organizations. All South Dakota Sheriffs are members of our association
. The SDSA provides scholarships to criminal justice/law enforcement students each year. We also offer training to Sheriffs and other law enforcement at least twice yearly at our Spring and Fall conferences and do sponsor other trainings on occasion. It is a top priority to our association that quality training and education be available to Sheriffs as well as to our law enforcement leaders of tomorrow. The Association also serves as an information network for Sheriffs throughout the state, ensuring they are informed on current issues that could impact their day to day duties as Sheriffs.
