Sheriff Samuel R. Swanson was sworn in as the Marshall County Sheriff in July 2021. Prior to taking office he had served as the Chief Deputy there. Sheriff Swanson has been in law enforcement since 2017 working as deputy investigator for sheriffs offices in Roberts and Day Counties. Sheriff Swanson has a staff of five deputies handle who are responsible for all law enforcement in Marshall County including five incorporated towns and two unincorporated towns through a contract law system. They cover 878 square miles. Sheriff Elsen also oversees a six bed jail built in 1908 and is one of the oldest in SD. The Sheriff’s Office employs 13 staff members all total. |
