Sheriff Koens took over as the Faulk County Sheriff on June 16th, 2026, but has been a Law Enforcement Officer since 1999. He spent some time with the Day County Sheriff’s Office and Aberdeen Police Department. Prior to becoming Sheriff, he was the Chief Deputy and Jail Administrator for Faulk County since 2004. There are 3 Deputies, 6 Dispatchers, 14 Corrections Officers, and 1 Admin Secretary in the office.

Sheriff Koens is married to Elizabeth who is the Faulk County Register of Deeds. They have 4 children. He is also on the United Methodist Church Board of Ordained Ministry.
