Jim Prouty became the Sheriff of Union County in February of 2024. With a law enforcement career spanning over 15 years, he commenced his service in 2007 at the University of South Dakota’s police department. In 2011, he transitioned to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, where he has remained until the present. Throughout his tenure, Sheriff Prouty has progressed through the ranks of Deputy, Sergeant, and Chief Deputy/Investigator. Additionally, he served in the South Dakota Air National Guard from 1997 to 2022 and maintains membership in the American Legion Post 134. Sheriff Prouty also serves his community as President of the Elk Point Ambulance District and is a member of the South Dakota Sheriff’s Association. Sheriff Jim Prouty is married with five children. |
